Free FOIA Officer training

TimberlakeSmith’s education and local government attorneys again are offering free Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) training. The training is designed to meet the statutory requirement that FOIA officers be trained annually.

The first training session will be held Wednesday, December 19, 2018, from 2 PM to 4 PM in the Smith Room West at the Augusta County Government Center in Verona, Virginia. A second training session is planned for Friday, January 11, 2019, at a location to be determined in southwest Virginia.

The training will focus on both the “open records” and the “open meeting” provisions of FOIA, as well as provide an update on recent changes to FOIA. In addition to meeting the training requirement for FOIA officers, the training will provide useful information, tips, and reminders to those new to FOIA responsibilities as well as refreshers for individuals familiar with the statutes.

We provide this service free to to TimberlakeSmith clients, as well as any other interested representatives or employees of public bodies.

Please RSVP to Jocelyn Bedow at 540-885-1517 or jocelyn@timberlakesmith.com with the name(s) and contact information of each attendee. If you have any questions, feel free to contact Mandi Smith at msmith@timberlakesmith.com  or Randy Perdue at rperdue@timberlakesmith.com.
